A Student Skateboard Art Exhibition.
Rivard Art Education, with the support of the 21st Century Learners Center Grant, is thrilled to announce “PROCESS- A Student Skateboard Art Exhibition”. High school students from FAIR School Downtown and Venture Academy are on display in this unique, culturally inspired art show.
“PROCESS”, a show title that was conceptualized by the students, which represents the idea of materializing a thought or an idea into the physical world through the creative process. Tasked with creating original works of art on skateboards the common link of conversation was about the artistic process of making an original work, and how that fits into world around us. From trips to the Weisman Art Museum to tours of Target’s creative teams studios, the students were exposed to everything from the most distinguished in the fine arts realm, to some of the largest production of art in the country through retail product development. It all culminates in an exhibition that brings youth culture, fine art, skateboarding, and self expression to a gallery setting at Cal Surf.
The stage will be set at the perfect venue for such an ambitious display of youth talent, iconic Twin Cities Skateshop Cal Surf. Cal Surf is one of the most respected skateboard retailers in Minnesota and plays host to the Cal Surf Gallery, a second floor project space and art gallery that has hosted multiple projects, and has continually been the gracious host of Rivard Art exhibitions.
PROCESS will also host the incredible students of Pankalo Education Center. Pankalo Education Center is a K-8 school serving students with special needs in suburban St. Paul, MN. Experts at serving the unique needs of their students with Emotional Behavioral Disorders (EBD), Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Rivard was honored to have been giving that chance to bring skateboards and art to these incredible kids. “I wanted to give the students a real experience, and see them in a public show right along side their peers regardless of any challenges they may face in day to day life. Every child deserves the chance to be involved in something they will be proud of, and every parent deserves to see their child given opportunities that allow them to succeed”.
